about melinda davila

Melinda Davila is an artist and mother living and working in Los Angeles. Born in 1984 and raised in Oak Park CA, Melinda is of Malaysian Chinese and Spanish descent. She attended Harvard for her undergraduate degree in visual studies and painting, producing large scale figure paintings exploring femininity and female relationships. Melinda has always been interested in faces and figures - she counts Eric Fischl, Alice Neel, and Alex Katz among her early influences. After braving the east coast winters for four years, Melinda movied back to LA and took a fun detour into the fashion industry, managing product lines for 7 For All Mankind and Gap Inc for several years. But art and painting were calling her back to the studio - and the need to explore identity further by delving into culture and ethnicity - celebrating and studying her own through colorful references and whimsical watercolors.
